James N. Kremer Professor of Marine Sciences Biographical Sketch
James N. Kremer is a Professor in the Department of Marine Sciences at UCONN at Avery Point. He received his bachelors degree from Princeton University, and Ph.D. from the Graduate School of Oceanography at URI. He began his academic employment at the University of Southern California, and currently teaches in the new interdisciplinary Coastal Studies major at UCONN. He is a coastal systems ecologist and his research has focused on interactions among organisms and their environment in a variety of coastal ecosystems. He has studied temperate estuaries, shallow lagoons, a kelp forest, a tropical sandy-bottom community, oceanic plankton systems, and rice ecology in Bali. Recently his attention has been towards understanding and predicting the chain of events connecting changing patterns of land use in coastal watersheds to the dramatic ecological transformations occurring in our coastal waters.
