Jane K. Stahl Deputy Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection Biographical Sketch Jane Stahl is Deputy Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection. In that role she is responsible for all of the department's environmental quality programs including air, waste, water and Long Island Sound related programs. Ms. Stahl has been with DEP since 1978. As Assistant Director of the Office of Long Island Sound Programs her responsibilities include supervision of coastal permitting and enforcement, and program and policy development for Long Island Sound and related resources. Through membership on the nationwide Coastal States Organization and as past chair of its Legal Council, Ms. Stahl has worked to ensure state interests are considered in federal actions affecting coastal areas. Ms. Stahl was co-preparer of the treatise Putting the Public Trust to Work, 2nd Edition. Ms. Stahl is a member of the National Environmental Justice Advisory Council (NEJAC) as a representative of state government. In that role she works to ensure that no segment of the population bears a disproportionate share of the risks and consequences of environmental pollution or is denied equal access to environmental benefits because of its racial or economic makeup. Ms. Stahl holds a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies from the State University of New York, Stony Brook; a Master of Science in Natural Resources Policy and Management from the University of Michigan; a law degree from the University of Connecticut; and is admitted to the Connecticut Bar.
