By Lindsey Rhoads Kravitz

Abstract:

Conservation is about people, public education and school education. Environmental Education: Cross-Cultural Modeling explores the dynamics between education, the natural environment and society and focuses on a practical model of environmental education that can lead to conservation. The model, sequestered by many authors and scholars of education and the environment, is an organized and detailed systematic approach to environmental education.

The proposed model of environmental education was applied to tow different countries: Poland and the United Kingdom. Both the environmental and educational histories of both countries were investigated, and finally, research on the two countries provided insight as to the environmental educational progress of the country in regards to the proposed model of environmental education.

The study found the model to be applicable to stable and democratic nations. These two necessary building blocks can couple with the model to create an ecoliterate populace. The model will work successfully not only with stability and democracy, but is a model for first world and small nations. Socio-cultural aspects of society play a role in developing a timeframe. Therefore, in a plastic timetable dependant on socio-cultural variables, a democratic and stable nation, such as Poland and the United Kingdom, has the ability to implement this educational model, having a successful outcome of an ecoliterate society.
