Class of 2005
Updates Update from Marcie Berry '05 Currently, I am getting my masters at Tufts in Animals and Public Policy. It is a very small, unique program - the only one of its kind really. We discuss all sorts of issues surrounding companion animals, wildlife, research animals and farm animals, talking about their current status and the policy surrounding them etc.. We have read some really incredible and eye opening books and articles. If anyone at the center is interested in the human-animal bond or human-animal studies, this is a great program. And we also do talk about a lot of environmental issues, since its all interconnected. You can check it out at: http://www.tufts.edu/vet/cfa/ (November 8, 2007)
Since graduating in 2005, I've been mostly working in New York City at St. Martin's Press as an editorial assistant. (October 18, 2007) Update from Genevieve Godfrey '05 I am working as a graduate student within a four-year project through Leslie Cornick and the NOAA Cook Inlet Beluga Energetics Grant, Anchorage, AK. The project seeks to understand beluga energetics and body composition to produce a general model for energy consumption and health, and better assess the needs of the Cook Inlet population of belugas. (October 12, 2007) Update from Keiko Nishimoto '05 I was accepted by the JET program and will be departing for Japan this week. I didn't know until a week ago, but I'll be in southern Japan in a city called Awa. It's on the Island of Shikoku, fairly close to both Hiroshima and Osaka. Update from Emily Weidner '05 I'm now living in DC and working at the Nature Conservancy with the Asia-Pacific Resources Team (working on proposals/reports and philanthropy and marketing). After getting into Duke's Environmental Management program, I decided to wait and not accept admission this fall. I still would like to go to grad school, but I'm trying to gain more clarity on the program that is right for me. Currently I'm looking for jobs that engage me in field work and can use and help develop my skills. I am one of the candidates for a paid internship with the Fisheries and Wildlife Division of the East Bay Municipal Utility District in CA.
I'm interning for Coastal Living magazine these days, and I'm working on the annual Environmental Awards for our Jan./Feb 2007 issue. We award eligible candidates in different areas of environmental accomplishment- tourism, education, sea & shore preservation, community development, design, leadership. Update from Katherine Williams '05 I've began my graduate studies in Mathematics Education at City College in NYC. I've already completed six credits in just two weeks! I've also confirmed that I will be teaching at the Bronx Expeditionary Learning High School and couldn't be more excited.
