Seventh Season
Laura Hungerford
enters her seventh season as the head women's basketball coach
at Connecticut College.
In 2006-2007, Hungerford's Camels finished 10-14 with no seniors on the roster. Kirsten Frazier '10 proved to be one of the top newcomers in the NESCAC, finishing second in the league with 2.7 steals per game. Katy Serafin '08 continued to provide post presence for the Camels, finishing fourth in NESAC rebounding (8.2 rpg.) and 10th in scoring with 13.1 points per contest.
Prior to her arrival
in New London, Hungerford had a successful five-year stint
as the head women's basketball coach at Rochester Institute
of Technology. She was named the Empire Eight Conference Coach
of the Year in 2000-01 after guiding the Tigers (10-15) to
the highest win total in the 14-year history of the program. In addition to
her coaching experience at RIT, Hungerford spent five years
at the University of Chicago from 1991-96, serving as the
head softball coach, assistant women's basketball coach, and
assistant professor of physical education. From 1985-91 she
held a similar position at the University of Maine at Farmington
where she was the head women's basketball and softball coach
and an assistant professor of physical education. Her first coaching
job came in 1982 when she was named the head women's basketball
coach at Manchester Community College in Manchester, Connecticut.
In two seasons, her teams compiled a record of 23-19.
Hungerford was
a four-year standout for the women's basketball team at Central
Connecticut State University and earned her Bachelor of Science
degree in health and physical education in 1979. She then
went on to serve as a graduate assistant for the women's basketball
team from 1980-82 while earning a master's degree in secondary
physical education. Hungerford was inducted into the CCSU
Athletic Hall of Fame in the spring of 2003.
Assistant Coach
Third Season
Jessica Baker enters her third season as assistant coach with the Camel basketball and field hockey programs. A 2005 graduate of Trinity College in Hartford, Baker enjoyed tremendous success in field hockey and on the basketball court in the New England Small College Athletic Conference. She spent her first two years with Babson College in the New England Men and Women's Athletic Conference.
At Babson, Baker enjoyed immediate success, garnering NEWMAC Rookie of the Year honors while also being tabbed to the first team of the All-Conference squad. Baker netted a career-high 16 goals and notched 40 points in her sophomore season, earning All-NEWMAC honors for the second consecutive season while also being named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-Region squad.
Baker made a smooth transition to Trinity, and was named to the All-NESCAC and NFHCA All-Region team in 2004, finishing second in the NESCAC with 13 goals. She completed her career with 43 goals and 100 points. Baker also enjoyed a highly successful basketball career, notching 913 points in her career. She holds the Bantam school record for career free throw percentage, connecting at an 80% clip from the charity stripe.
In the Spring of 2005, Baker was honored as Trinity's Susan E. Martin Award as the college's top senior female scholar athlete. Baker graduated a degree in educational studies.
