The Health Gap: Inequality in U.S. Health Care

The Center for the Comparative Study of Race and Ethnicity (CCSRE) sponsored a two-day symposium on March 4-5, 2010, "The Health Gap: Inequality in U.S. Health Care," examining the racial gap in health care and the current national debate about health care policy. The event featured panel discussions, lectures, a community conversation and a keynote address by former U.S. Surgeon General Dr. David Satcher (pictured at left).
“This symposium is designed to get faculty, students, staff and the community to think about what we all take for granted – our health,” said David Canton, associate professor of history and director of the CCSRE. “Discussions will focus on the history of the racial gap in health care and the debate about whether or not health care is a human right.”
