Study Away
The world awaits you. We provide the pathways.
Connecticut College has a long tradition of recognizing the importance of international studies and study away. This is reflected in our mission statement: "Connecticut College educates students to put the liberal arts into action as citizens in a global society."
55% of Connecticut College students study away or abroad through our own innovative international and national programs. The College's established long-term relationships and affiliations with institutions also offer students a variety of outstanding study programs throughout the world.
A thread of internationalism runs through the entire campus via the curriculum and student life programs. Many students choose to do an internship abroad as well. Students who share their study-away experiences upon return also deepen the intellectual discussion on campus.
The Toor Cummings Center for International Studies and the Liberal Arts (CISLA) represents the most rigorous and comprehensive academic investment given to international studies. Acceptance to this certificate program means students can globalize any major through a set of specialized requirements. Through interdisciplinary course work, intensive foreign language training, work experience abroad, and a project involving an in-depth study of a particular area of the world, CISLA scholars integrate knowledge and experience to maximize their educational returns.
Study Away/Teach Away (SATA) sends 10-30 students and faculty members to host institutions throughout the world to complete a full semester of scholarly activity while being immersed in the local culture. The program has an incredible impact on the amount and breadth of knowledge possessed by Connecticut College students, no matter what their major.
The Traveling Research and Immersion Program (TRIP) creates transforming learning opportunities for small groups of faculty and students by providing academic/research immersion experiences at domestic and international sites, often as a course component. The TRIP initiative makes use of traditional breaks during the academic year for travel.
Your own journey begins here, at Connecticut College.
