Installing Virus Software on a Mac

Before installing Norton AntiVirus you must first remove any previously installed antivirus software (i.e. McAfee VirusScan and/or Virex). Refer to the documentation for that software for removal instructions.

Downloading Norton AntiVirus For Macintosh OS X 10.5 (Leopard):

Downloading Norton AntiVirus For Macintosh OS X 10.3 (Panther) and 10.4 (Tiger):
Click Here to begin downloading Norton AntiVirus. It should download a file named "NortonAntiVirus10.dmg" (file size is about 27MB). It should automatically be saved to your default download location (some browsers will give you the choice of saving it to disk or opening it, so choose the save option). Once the download has completed, locate that file and double-click it to mount the disk image named "Norton AntiVirus 10.0 CD". Double-click the file named "Norton AntiVirus Read Me.rtf" and read the installation instructions. Then double-click the "Norton AntiVirus Installer.mpkg" file to install the software. When you are prompted to authenticate with a password, the password you should use is your Mac user account password, not your CC network password. After the installer has run it will ask if you want to run Live Update, which you should do. It will download any available updates for the Norton AntiVirus application as well as for the antivirus definitions file that it uses. You will then be prompted to logout of your account to complete the install. Make sure to run the Norton AntiVirus application after the install is complete and use the "Schedule" to to set up at a Product Update event to update virus definitions and an AntiVirus Scan of your hard drive, both of which run at least monthly, preferably weekly.

Downloading Norton AntiVirus For Macintosh OS X 10.2 (Jaguar), 10.1 (Puma) and 10.0 (Cheetah):
Click Here to begin downloading Norton AntiVirus. It should download a file named "NortonAV9-OSX.zip" (file size is about 20MB). It should automatically be saved to your default download location (some browsers will give you the choice of saving it to disk or opening it, so choose the save option). Once the download has completed it should be automatically unzipped by StuffIt Expander. If it is not then locate the file "NortonAV9-OSX.zip" and double-click it to unzip it. A folder named "Norton Anti-Virus Corp. for OS X" should be created. Open that folder and double-click the file named "Norton AntiVirus Read Me.rtf" and read the installation instructions. Then double-click the "Norton AntiVirus Installer.mpkg" file to install the software. When you are prompted to authenticate with a password, the password you should use is your Mac user account password, not your CC network password.
