4. Why am I getting the message "Relaying Denied"/Can´t send mail?
Many times people try to send spam email through servers which are opened for Relaying. In an effort to reduce the amount of Spam email we receive here on campus we set the servers up not to Relay messages. The work around is fairly simple. If you are using a Pop client to read your email, configure the outgoing mail server to be that of your local ISP (Internet Service Provider). An example would be: If you use Snet for dial up access set your outgoing mail server to mail.snet.net.
5. My Disk Quota is full, what can I do?
Clean up. That´s the first place to start. If you are using squirrelmail you may have to turn off the trash folder option. You won´t be able to move anything into the trash until you do this. Turn it back on once you have finished cleaning up. Also, there is a new Check Quota feature under Options.
Before you call the help desk, please double check the following things:
- Empty Trash or Deleted Items folder.
- Clean out your sent mail items. Empty Trash again.
- Look for files with large attachments. Empty Trash again.
6. What is meant by POP mail?
With POP (Post Office Protocol), mail is delivered to a shared server, and a personal computer user periodically connects to the server and downloads all of the pending mail to the "client" machine. Thereafter, all mail processing is local to the client machine. Think of POP as providing a store-and-forward service, intended to move mail (on demand) from an intermediate server (drop point) to a single destination machine, usually a PC or Mac. Once delivered to the PC or Mac, the messages are typically deleted from the POP server.
7. Do I get to keep my account after I graduate?
It is recommended that you register with the Alumni Online community. It is a permanent address that allows you to forward email to any account that you choose. It´s a great way to stay in touch with your classmates.
8. How do I find someone at Conn?
The college directory is located on Camelweb. The search bar towards the top of the page, on the right, will allow you to search for a person's name. The results will give you their Email, extension, and other information.
