Keep your operating system and programs up to date

Keeping Up to Date

Keep your computer´s operating system software current by updating the computer operating system at least twice a month

To do this in Internet Explorer open "tools," click "windows updates," click "scan for updates" and install all "critical updates" or service packs.

Important Note:
Service Pack 2 for Windows XP should only be installed from on campus so that the appropriate resources are available, should you need them.

Update the operating system more frequently if there is a new vulnerability reported. Check your college email regularly - Is Technical Support will send an alert if a critical vulnerability is announced.

Keep your programs up to date

Currently, there is an existing vulnerability in the Microsoft Office products (MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc)

If you have Windows XP, it is recommended you install
Office XP Service Pack 3.
You can install it from the college software library server here:
http://cherry.conncoll.edu/officeupdates/
You may need the MS Office XP installation CD to perform the update.

If you have Windows 2000, it is recommended you install
Office 2000 Service Pack 1a and
Office 2000 Service Pack 3
They must be installed in order. Make sure to install 1a before 3.
You can install them from the college software library server here:

You may need the MS Office 2000 installation CD to perform the update.
