Web Services

There are several web servers at Connecticut College. Each performs different functions to meet the needs of the college.

Camel (http://www.conncoll.edu/) provides the public college web site.

Aspen (aspen.conncoll.edu) serves the college intranet, including ePortfolio and the Alumni Online Community, and all ColdFusion based web applications.

Oak (oak.conncoll.edu) provides space for student club web pages.

Cherry (cherry.conncoll.edu) provides web space for student web pages. Students upload web files to their "Z" drive, which is on Cherry, but Oak actually serves the site so that student web addresses look like this: http://oak.conncoll.edu/username

Listed below are the most commonly asked questions and answers to assist you with web services offered at Connecticut College:

1. How do I access my own personal web space?

Please put in a web request at webrequest.conncoll.edu. Choose "Web Server Access Accounts" from the drop down menu for the type of request when you fill out the form. You will receive an email message with instructions from the Web Administrator when your web space is ready.

2. What Web editing software is available for me to use?
Macromedia DreamWeaver is a keyed application available on the Software Library Server. Please contact the help desk if you are unsure how to access the software. Instructions for installation are included in the same folder as the software.

3. Who do I contact for web server log-in/access problems?

Contact the webmaster for access or permissions problems. Currently there is no ssh/FTP access allowed to the web servers from off campus. However, if you get on the college VPN, you can then upload files as usual.

4. Who do I contact for general web help?

You can send general questions to webteam@conncoll.edu.

If you are a member of the campus community who wants to make a request for a modification or change, please fill out the web request form.

5. How much space do I get for my web site?

It is current policy that students are allowed 50 MB on Cherry (cherry.conncoll.edu) for storage/web space. Web space can be adjusted for special projects.
