Thomas Brown was born and raised in Sparta, Michigan and started playing the trumpet at the age of 12. He joined the Connecticut College faculty in 2014 as an instructor of trumpet.
After a nasty bout with braces and too much time spent in a dark basement with method books, he decided to attend the University of Michigan. While at Michigan he studied privately with Charles Daval. He marched in the Michigan Marching Band and can still be heard cursing under his breath – something about Buckeyes.
After four years at Michigan he pursued his Master of Music degree at Indiana University while studying with John Rommel.
Thomas then moved to Chicago to play with the Chicago Civic Orchestra. While in Chicago, Thomas won an audition with the United States Coast Guard Band.
As a member of the USCGA band, Thomas performs as solo cornet with the band as well as being a member of the Dixieland Band. He can be heard in the region performing with the Hartford Symphony, Eastern Connecticut Symphony, and various traditional jazz bands.
