Assistant Professor of Comparative History, Modern East Asia

Connecticut College invites applications for a tenure-track position in the history department at the rank of assistant professor for a historian of comparative modern East Asia.

Preference will be given to candidates who see their scholarship and teaching within a transnational context.  Those with a primary interest in Japan or Korea are preferred but other candidates are strongly urged to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a one-semester Introduction to Japanese Civilization survey course, advanced courses in his/her area of specialty, and help support the interdisciplinary curriculum of the East Asian Studies program.  Normal teaching load for tenure-track faculty is five courses per year.

This is a full-time tenure-track position beginning 1 July 2009.  Ph.D. at time of appointment preferred and demonstrated excellence in teaching and research relative to experience required. Salary is competitive. Tenure-track faculty receive a research stipend for their first two summers and a semester's leave at full salary after their third year if they are reappointed for the full probationary period.
