Sponsored Research Officer
CONNECTICUT COLLEGE, a highly selective private liberal arts college, located in the historic seaport of New London, seeks a Sponsored Research Officer who will assist the faculty in seeking external grant funding for their research and scholarships.
Reporting to the Director of Corporate, Foundation and Government Relations, the officer will be responsible for: identifying and pursuing sponsored research opportunities from federal, foundation, and corporate sources including both large and small grants across a range of disciplines. In addition to providing faculty with one-on-one assistance in the preparation and review of grant proposals and accompanying budgets, the Sponsored Research Officer will help to plan and lead on-campus faculty development activities focused on grant seeking; maintain records of sponsored research activity; and assist with key research administration tasks as necessary.
Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3 years of successful management experience working with grants in higher education and/or related experience with a sophisticated understanding of trends and challenges in higher education required; Master’s degree preferred. Candidates should have knowledge of both pre-and post-award activities with federal, state, corporate and foundations sources. The successful candidate must have demonstrated computer experience in word and spreadsheet software; previous experience with budgeting; analytical and independent decision-making skills; strong ability to organize, plan, and independently manage multiple priorities; strong oral and written communication skills; experience with proposal creation, budgets and interpretation of federal, state and institutional guidelines; prior experience in grants offices, contract offices, research offices, or in research administration offices.
