Convocation
Convocation, literally a "calling together" of the College community, celebrates the formal opening of the academic year, taking place on the first day of classes.
Convocation brings faculty, staff and students together, affirming their identity as a community as they begin a new venture, a new year, together. It also welcomes incoming freshmen and acknowledges the beginning of senior year for the graduating class.
The College awards its three top faculty honors during Convocation: the Nancy Batson Nisbet Rash Research Award, the John S. King Memorial Teaching Award and the Helen B. Regan Faculty Leadership Award. Read more about these awards.
The 2007 ceremony - the 93rd in the history of Connecticut College - was Thursday, August 30, at 4:30 p.m. in Palmer Auditorium. The 2007 Convocation address was delivered by Professor of English John S. Gordon, last year's recipient of the Rash Award.
