Abigail Van Slyck
Abigail Van Slyck, the director of Architectural Studies and a professor of art history, is an expert in 19th- and 20th-century American architecture. In her most recent book, A Manufactured Wilderness: Summer Camps and the Shaping of American Youth, 1890-1960 (University of Minnesota Press, 2006), Van Slyck examines camp buildings and explains how they reveal attitudes about gender roles, notions of health, and ideas about nature.
