Campus Environmental Coordinator
Connecticut College hired a full-time Campus Environmental Coordinator in 2005 to support campus-wide environmental sustainability efforts. This individual coordinates campus initiatives that address energy conservation and efficiency, renewable energy, waste minimization and recycling and other topic areas. She is a member of the Environmental Model Committee and supports the Environmental Representatives and student environmental groups.
Meet Amy Cabaniss, Campus Environmental Coordinator
Amy Cabaniss came to Connecticut College after serving the 9-town Connecticut River Estuary Region in Connecticut for 6 years as a recycling coordinator. In addition to coordinating recycling efforts through the regional planning agency, Amy managed the construction of a household hazardous waste facility to serve the region's 25,000 households.
Amy is an environmental studies doctoral candidate at Antioch University New England. Her dissertation research applies behavior change theory in communications messages to promote environmentally-responsible behavior. She has an MBA in Management and Organization from the University of New Haven and a BS in Environmental Conservation from the University of New Hampshire. Amy's professional affiliations include the North American Hazardous Materials Management Association, where she served on the Board and is currently NAHMMA New England Chapter Vice President/President-Elect, the Association of Consumer Research, North American Association for Environmental Education, and the Society for Human Ecology. She is Editor of Handbook on Household Hazardous Waste published by Government Institutes Press in February, 2008.
