EMC Action Committees
Action Committees comprised of dedicated EMC members and non-members serve as working groups that propel Environmental Model Committee objectives and ideas.
Energy & GHG Inventory AC
Addresses energy consumption issues on campus and identifies and fosters progress toward decreasing energy use and greenhouse gas emissions through conservation and efficiency; provides assistance on the Presidents Climate Commitment–Climate Action Plan, a comprehensive plan to achieve climate neutrality. Fosters campus awareness and understanding of college renewable energy efforts and identifies, researches and potentially viable renewable energy options
Campus Buildings, Grounds & Planning AC
Emphasizes sustainability in college-wide planning documents; Evaluates, and makes recommendations for, existing and future renovation and building efforts so that environmental considerations are included; addresses initiatives outlined in the Green Building Policy; works with the Energy & Greenhouse Gas AC on renewable energy considerations; recommends more preventative maintenance and sustainability projects for Physical Plant operations
Sustainability and the Curriculum AC
Develop a definition for sustainability-related and –focused courses in the curriculum; promote sustainability in on- or off-campus seminars to help faculty develop ideas for teaching and integration into existing or new programs
Sustainable Foods & Food Service AC
Identifies issues and avenues for improvement in food and food-related purchases, supply/service and disposal; fosters campus awareness and understanding of college food-related issues and efforts; works cooperatively with Sprout; aids in developing a food sustainability plan
Solid & Hazardous Materials Minimization & Waste Management AC
Examines the campus recycling infrastructure (including composting) and identifies and works to improve our recycling, waste minimization and waste management efforts; actively provides campus awareness-building support for RecycleMania; plans and provides guidance and assistance to a larger constituency of organizers and workers for ‘May Move-out’; recommends improvements in departmental purchasing to minimize waste and account for the cost of disposal; seeks alternatives to recommend for hazardous material substitutions
Transportation AC
Examines the transportation infrastructure to identify opportunities for improvement and alternative transportation options (e.g. bicycling and bicycle storage capacity); conducts a systematic survey of faculty/staff commuting practices
