Environmental Sustainability Baseline Audit
The College undertook a comprehensive Environmental Sustainability Baseline Assessment (ESBA) that was completed by consultants in June, 2009. The ESBA is an audit of the College's sustainability practices focusing on greenhouse gas emissions, energy, food and purchasing, solid and hazardous waste management, transportation, campus buildings and grounds, water usage, and sustainability in the curriculum, among other topics. An outcome of the ESBA is a Sustainability Steering Committee that has been appointed to facilitate sustainability practices, policies and programs on campus in cooperation with the Environmental Model Committee.
The College’s campus sustainability initiative was officially launched on February 11, 2010, with a "Teach-In On Sustainability." Over 150 people - students, staff and faculty - attended this day-long campus event that included an opening address by President Higdon, panel presentation and small group discussions on the ESBA highlights, challenges and opportunities for sustainability. The event was co-sponsored by the Environmental Model Committee and the Goodwin-Niering Center for the Environment.
