Masako Inkyo

"Spectrum of Black and White" is the first exhibition in the state for Inkyo, a renowned calligraphy master and artist based in New York.

It includes five works by Inkyo displayed along with select calligraphy works from the Charles Chu collection to demonstrate the continuities and contrasts between contemporary Japanese calligraphy - known as shodo - and the Chinese calligraphic tradition.

Inkyo teaches shodo at the Japan Society in New York and serves as the official shodo artist for the automaker Infiniti. Her brushwork can be seen in the 2010 commercials for the Infiniti G Series.

The exhibition, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Japan Foundation, Los Angeles, with additional support from the Elie Wiesel Chair in Religious Studies and the departments of East Asian Languages and Cultures, Art History and Architectural Studies, and Art.
