Research Databases Pertaining to Affirmative Action
Because of the multidisciplinary nature of the topic of affirmative action, there are a number of databases that are useful in finding information pertaining to affirmative action policies in academic journals, magazines, and newspapers. A full listing of scholarly databases is available grouped by subject or listed alphabetically .   Some of the databases with particular relevance to the topic of affirmative action follow:

ABI Complete
Includes ABI/INFORM Dateline, Global, and Trade and Industry databases. Search over 1800 worldwide business periodicals for in-depth coverage of business and economic conditions, management techniques, theory, and practice of business, advertising, marketing, economics, human resources, finance, taxation, computers, and more. Expanded international coverage. Provides users with the latest industry news, product and competitive information, marketing trends, and a wide variety of other topics.

America: History and Life
is the most comprehensive bibliographic resource for the history of the United States and Canada. Its coverage spans the prehistory of the continent to the present. This database provides citations to articles, book reviews, dissertations, edited volumes, and media sources from over 1800 journals worldwide going back to 1954.

Contemporary Women's Issues (via First Search)
Provides full-text access to global information on women in over 150 countries. Indexes books, journals, newsletters, research reports from non-profit groups, government and international agencies, and fact sheets.

CQ Researcher (Congressional Quarterly)
Explores a single "hot" issue in the news in depth each week. Topics range from social and teen issues to environment, health, education and science and technology. Every report is written by an experienced journalist and features comments from experts, lawmakers and citizens on all sides of every issue. History Resource Center – U.S.
The History Resource Center: U.S. provides integrated access to over 1,000 historical (primary) documents, more then 30,000 reference articles, and over 65 full-text journal covering themes, events, individuals and periods in U.S. history from pre-Colonial times to the present. The material also includes access to the citations for over 180 additional history journals from the Institute for Scientific Information Arts and Humanities Citation Index.

Lexis-Nexis

Presidential Commission on a Pluralistic Community - Pluralism Report
Report released in August 2003 by the Commission summarizing state of diversity at Connecticut College and provides recommendations for creating a more pluralistic campus community. 

Dean of Multicultural Affairs (DoMA)
The Dean of Multicultural Affairs coordinates efforts to advance equity and diversity at the college.

Connecticut College Multiculturalism and Diversity Committee
Links to information on the MDC, its members, mission and activities.

Unity House
Unity House is the College's multicultural center.   Its mission is to provide leadership and support for the College's commitment to diversity and multiculturalism.

Interdisciplinary Centers at Connecticut College
This page includes links to the Connecticut College's six interdisciplinary academic centers.   The Center for the Comparative Study of Race and Ethnicity (CCSRE) is the college's sixth academic center.   It was derived from the Presidential Commission on a Pluralistic Community, and recently approved by the Board of Trustees.

Includes links to a number of resources on affirmative action, including fact sheets, press releases and reports.   A research guide is also available at to affirmative action from civilrights.org,. This site also provides an extensive reference guide to affirmative action entitled Civil Rights 101 – Affirmative Action .

Affirmative Action Review – Report to the President
On March 7, 1995, President Clinton directed that a review be conducted of the Federal government's affirmative action programs. The resultant report includes a history and review of   of affirmative action programs and offers policy recommendations for the President's consideration

DiversityWeb – An Interactive Resource Hub for Higher Education
DiversityWeb began in 1995 as a collaborative project between the University of Maryland College Park and the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U).   DiversityWeb is a collection of campus practices and resources about diversity in higher education. The site is “designed to serve campus practitioners seeking to place diversity at the center of academy's educational and societal mission.”

The Journal of Blacks in Higher Education
This site is a companion to the print publication of the same name.   Among the information presented are statistics on the state of racial inequality in education, and a timeline of affirmative action.

This site includes an Affirmation Action Fact Sheet as well as applicable   laws and regulations

U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC)
Congress established the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) to enforce Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.   The EEOC is the Federal Government's premier civil rights agency.

Employment Discrimination: An Overview
From the Legal Information Institute at Cornell Law School, this site provides an overview of employment discrimination laws, as well as links to applicable federal and state statutes and regulations and federal and state judicial decisions.
