How to Publicize Your Event
You've set the date. You've got the details. Now what? Follow these eight easy steps to publicize your event on campus.
Step 1
Allow three to four weeks for maximum publicity.
Step 2
Reserve a room. Contact the Office of Events and Catering at x5462 or e-mail Merrill Collins at mcollins@conncoll.edu.
Step 3
List your event on the campus calendar of events. Go to the front page of CamelWeb (the College intranet), click the "Submit Event" button below that day's calendar listings on the front page and fill out the form. All events approved for the calendar will also be considered for external newspaper publicity and local community calendars (if the event is open to the public).
Step 4
Create a poster. There are several Microsoft Word templates to help you make your own poster. For templates, tips and step-by-step directions, visit http://graphics.conncoll.edu/ and select the "Poster Templates" link.
Step 5
Submit student event announcements to the Daily CONNtact, a student-run publication that appears online and on all dining hall tables. Submit your add at the Info Desk in Cro before 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday or before noon on Friday. Or send an e-mail to conntact@conncoll.edu. (A CONNtact ad costs $1 - $2).
Step 6
Submit your event announcement to the faculty or staff listserv. Send an e-mail to connstaff@conncoll.edu or faculty@oak.conncoll.edu. You'll get a reply when your message has been approved.
Step 7
E-mail the student newspaper, The College Voice, at ccvoice@conncoll.edu, so that the staff can consider your event for coverage.
Step 8
Submit a picture or poster to CamelWeb. Click "Submit Photo" above the photo on the CamelWeb homepage. Upload your image, include a short description of the event (be sure to include the date, time and location) in the "Image Caption" text box and click "Submit Images." Once approved, images will appear in the rotation.
Is your event newsworthy?
We may be able to interest media in your event if it is the first of its kind or part of a larger trend; integrally involves students; or has a "human interest" connection or local angle. To discuss possible newspaper or television coverage of your event, please contact Amy Martin at a.martin@conncoll.edu, or call x2526 to discuss media possibilities.
