Using the Campaign Logo

A logo is a graphical element that, together with its logotype (a typeface that is uniquely set and arranged) form a trademark or commercial brand. Typically, the purpose of a logo is to provide immediate recognition of an organization or entity.
The Office of College Relations has developed a logo for the Campaign for Connecticut College. Below are guidelines for using the logos in simple documents and publications. Generally, the logos should be used sparingly and should be a supplementary visual element of the design – not primary artwork.
The guidelines below must be followed when using the logo in print or on the web. If you have any questions regarding use of the Campaign logo, please contact Ben Parent at bparent@conncoll.edu or x2106 or call the Office of College Relations at 860-439-2500.

VERSIONS OF THE LOGO
Three versions are included within the Connecticut College Campaign identity program for various printing applications.
1. The official color swatch for the Campaign logo is Pantone (PMS) 289. The PMS 289 logo should be used for one- or two-color printing. For two-color designs, the PMS 289 logo must be used in conjunction with second ink color. This version should also be used for all Web applications.
2. The BLACK logo should only be used when color printing is not an option. In other words, grayscale/black and white designs such as a newspaper ads, envelops or the back of a postcards must utilize the black logo.
3. The CMYK version should be used for all full-color/CMYK printing. The following values cannot be modified from the original design: C: 100, M: 64, Y: 0, K: 60. Please note: due to the limitations of printing in CMYK, color will not identically match the PMS color swatch.
USAGE
Appearance
The tint, saturation and opacity of the logos and their subsequent versions cannot be modified under any circumstances. The logos cannot be “reversed,” knocked out or assigned a new color other than what is specified above. The entire logo must appear in its entirety and cannot be cropped, disproportionately transformed or have any effects (drop shadows, outlines, etc.) applied to it.
Size
At no time should the logo appear smaller than 1 inch in width or larger than 2.5 inches. If the logo needs to be scaled, its width must be enlarged or reduced in proportion to its height. The logo’s width relative to its height must not deviate from the original design under any circumstances.
In conjunction with/in place of the College Seal
The Campaign logo may replace the seal on communications that deal primarily with the Campaign. The Campaign and the College seal should not appear on the same page together, however they may be used at different places in a multi-page publication (i.e. Campaign logo on publication cover, College seal on back page).
Elements of the Campaign Logo
The logo's typography must not be altered, cropped or distorted under any circumstances, without expressed permission of the Office of College Relations. Under limited circumstances, with close guidance of the Office of College Relations, the tree from the Campaign logo may be screened in the background as a design element in select publications. College Relations must be consulted before elements of the Campaign logo are used in any way other than expressed above.
SUB-BRANDING
No variation of the Campaign logo or sub-logo may be used in conjunction with the Campaign. This will strengthen the identity of the Campaign and maximize the impact of the logo.
In place of sub-logos that link offices and programs with the Campaign, College Relations has developed Campaign letterhead that allows for adequate identification of Campaign-affiliated offices and programs without diluting the Campaign’s overall brand.
If you need Campaign letterhead for your department or program, please contact Ben Parent at bparent@conncoll.edu or x2106.
