Seniors seek to set class giving record
Students in the Class of 2007 are challenging their classmates to set a new record for giving to the College through the Annual Fund. "The Class of 2007 is seeking to not only beat the previous participation record ... but to shatter it," said Evan Piekara '07, SGA president and a member of the Senior Giving Committee, in a letter to classmates. The seniors kicked off their campaign March 2 with a "Senior Soiree" with a live band, desserts and special appearances by alumni guests and President Higdon. "This is truly a terrific group of young men and women. I've talked with many of them over the course of this academic year about how important it is that they participate, at any level they can. I am confident they will rise to the challenge and set a new record for Connecticut College," Higdon said. The program traditionally is a gesture of the graduating seniors' appreciation for their education. It also recognizes the role that philanthropy plays in every student's education at CC. Tuition has never covered the full cost of a CC education; every student benefits from philanthropy and endowment income. The Class of 1995 has the record for participation: 73 percent. Last year, the Class of 2006 achieved 56 percent. This year's seniors are closing in on that mark, with 55 percent of students giving.
