New web site launched

Conn's redesigned Web site launched on March 28.

The College has turned a new face to the world.

Visitors who have logged onto www.conncoll.edu since March 28 are seeing a dramatic new design, improved navigation and an array of new content and features.

The changes continue late next month when the College launches a new online community for alumni with features that will make it easy to post class notes, network with classmates and create a detailed personal profile. Only alumni will be able to view the site. They will get more information about it by mail and e-mail in the next six weeks.

The College's new home page and upper level pages have been reconfigured primarily to make it easier for prospective students and other visitors to get a better sense of the College, and more easily find the information they are looking for. But the site continues to serve all CC constituencies with links from the home page that take visitors like alumni and parents directly to pages with links of particular interest to them.

"The Web site is our single most important means of communication with the world beyond campus," said Patricia Carey, vice president for College Relations. "It connects alumni to the College, enhances the College's reputation, and helps us attract the best possible faculty, staff and students."

Some of the new features on the site include: changing Flash images on the home page, prominent new content about such areas as interdisciplinary centers, campus life and arts and culture. There's also a reloading featured called "Liberal Arts in Action," in which students, faculty and recent graduates provide first-person reflections on their liberal arts experience. A faculty expert feature for media has been added to the redesigned news page.

The project is part of a larger communications plan to support the College's strategic priorities.

"Launching a new site is a major milestone," said Director of Publications Lisa Brownell. "But I'm learning that a project like this is never really finished. The College is always evolving, and the Web site has to change right along with it."
