Agnes Gund ’60 named to WTC Memorial Foundation

Agnes Gund ’60, president emerita of the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA), has been named to the World Trade Center Memorial Foundation. Thirty-one individuals — civic, business and cultural leaders, media giants, and 9/11 victims’ family members — were appointed to the foundation on Dec. 1.

The foundation is expected to raise half a billion dollars to build a World Trade Center memorial, a museum building and a performing arts center, according to a Dec. 2 article in The New York Times.

Gund, who majored in history at Connecticut College, also was in the news last month when MOMA reopened after a renovation and expansion.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reported on Nov. 20:

A new lobby, on the east side of the garden, has been named for native Clevelander Agnes Gund, the philanthropist and activist who led the Museum of Modern Art as president from 1991 to 2002. Gund has been widely credited as a leading force behind the selection of [Japanese architect Yoshio] Taniguchi and in persuading fellow donors to dig deep.

“I really do feel we did get it right,” said Gund. “We paid attention to what we needed.”
