Dear Connecticut College Alumni:

Students are spending extra hours in Shain library prepping for exams this week and many are taking advantage of evening dodge ball games and free massages in the student center as study breaks. Exams end and winter break begins on Dec. 21.

See photos of winter scenes on campus through the years and look below for more CC news.

•  Curtain call. Five talented alumni have come together to form Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, a rock band that will perform on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” on Friday, Dec. 16.
•  In memoriam. Paul Fell, professor emeritus of zoology, dies at the age of 68.
•  At the top of their game. The CC men’s basketball team hits the court running, posting a 6-3 record one month into the season.
•  School to career. David Kieran ’00, Katrina Chapman ’02 and Rob Travieso ’02 tell students that majoring in English gave them essential skills for the working world.
•  An evening fast. Two charities got a boost from 1,151 CC students who gave up their dinners to fight hunger.
•  Being green. Art professor Timothy McDowell transforms CC’s printmaking studios into environmentally friendly facilities and a student group teams up with the Goodwin-Niering Center to cut campus energy costs by replacing incandescent light bulbs.
•  With honors. CC names 15 Winthrop scholars, the College’s highest academic honor.
