An internship focused Dziubeck's career plans
Jennifer Dziubeck '05 has her eye on 50 international companies in her position at KLD Research & Analytics, a leading firm for vetting investments for shareholders who want to invest in socially responsible companies. Dziubeck does her research by reading public documents, contacting non-governmental watchdog agencies and meeting with representatives of companies. She screens for human rights violations, environmental compliance and governance. The interest carries over into Dziubeck's personal life. "I've become really conscious of where I shop and the products I buy," said the economics and environmental studies major. Dziubeck was on campus recently as part of a panel discussion on socially responsible investing. Speakers stressed that companies are not good or evil; there is a continuum with good and bad traits in all companies. She became interested in socially responsible investing during an internship at Wachovia Securities in Hartford. Her boss was working with a group of Catholic schools that didn't want to invest in companies whose operations conflicted with their values. "He and I were both new to the concept, so I spent the semester just researching the field and how he could potentially apply social screens to his client's portfolios," Dziubeck said. She enjoys her work, but said there's another advantage to her job: it's in Boston, where she grew up. "It's nice being home," she said.
