Damien DePeter '95 — lacrosse

Damien DePeter '95

Damien DePeter proved to be one of the most prolific playmakers in the history of the Connecticut College lacrosse program. Using his open field vision and unselfish playing style, he was the catalyst for the team that went 34-12 (.739) from 1993-95 under head coach Fran Shields. Along the way DePeter piled up a school-record 121 career assists (he currently leads that category by 40) and added 56 goals. When he graduated, he ranked third all-time in career points, with 177. The three-year starter led the squad to three Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Final Fours, twice finishing among the top 16 teams in the nation.

In DePeter's sophomore season, the Camels emerged as a national power, defeating Middlebury College for the first time. The team closed the season with a 10-3 record, earning its first national ranking, 15th, in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Poll. As a junior, he tallied a school record 43 assists for the Camels (3.1 assists per game).

DePeter enjoyed an exceptional senior campaign, garnering All-America honors in his final year for the Camel blue. He dished out a team-high 41 assists, and, when combined with 14 goals, he had a team-leading 55 points. The talented attackman also earned All-New England honors and was named All-NESCAC (New England Small College Athletic Conference) for the second time in his storied career. He also represented the Camels in the prestigious North-South Senior All-Star Game.

DePeter majored in economics and earned Dean's List recognition (one semester), Dean's Honors (three semesters), and Dean's High Honors (three semesters). A 1995 Scholar Academic All-America honoree, he received the College's Brown-Brooks Award, presented annually to the outstanding male and female senior student-athletes. DePeter graduated cum laude, earning distinction in his major.

A committed citizen off the field, DePeter invested time in the education and development of New London youth. He taught an advanced program in mathematics at a local elementary school, while coaching the Williams School boys' seventh and eighth grade basketball team for two years. DePeter self-financed his entire college education with several on-campus endeavors, including a newspaper distribution business and a self-storage venture. In addition, he took a leadership role in Connecticut College's intramural program, serving as commissioner of three sports.

Since graduating, DePeter has started and sold two successful information technology consulting firms in Connecticut. He is currently a management consultant in strategic change services at IBM in New York City.

Damien and his wife, Deborah Bryant DePeter '98, reside in New York City with twin two-year old daughters, Ellie and Emma. He is one of several DePeter family members to graduate from Connecticut College, joining his sister Courtney '92, brother Dylan '98, and cousins Clare '99 and Kerrin '02.
