Three alumni had a hand in three award-winning films at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival held in Park City, Utah in January.

Sean Fine '96 and Andrea Nix Fine, directors of "War/Dance," won the directing award in the documentary category. The Fines' documentary tells the story of children in a refugee camp primary school in northern Uganda's war zone who venture on a journey to compete in the country´s annual music competition.

The documentary jury presented a special jury prize to "No End in Sight," which was produced by Jessie Vogelson '96, "in recognition of the film as timely work that clearly illuminates the misguided policy decisions that have led to the catastrophic quagmire of the U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq." The documentary examines how the Bush administration constructed the Iraq war and the subsequent occupation, and exposes a chain of critical errors, denial, and incompetence that has galvanized a violent quagmire.

André Robert Lee '93 managed product placement and clearances as part of the producing team for the film "Rocket Science," whose director won the directing award for a dramatic production. The movie tells of a high school student who suffers with stuttering and ends up falling in love with the star of the debate team and becoming a debater himself.

The films receiving jury awards were selected by distinguished jurors from films screening in the Independent Film Competition and the World Cinema Competition. There were 125 dramatic and documentary-length films at this year's festival.

"The 2007 Sundance Film Festival award-winners reflect the talent, diversity, and evolution of independent film and exemplify the artistic power of film to illuminate and explore issues that are prevalent in our global society," said Geoffrey Gilmore, director of the Sundance Film Festival.
