Jocelyn Briddell, currently dean of students at Douglass College-Rutgers, has been named dean of student life at CC, where she will play a key role in the integration of students' residential experience with their academic lives.

Briddell will oversee residential life and education, judicial affairs, student activities, the student center, counseling and health services. The position is charged with enhancing and extending the personal and intellectual development of the College's diverse student body.

Briddell is a graduate of Douglass College, where she majored in American studies and Africana studies. She received a master's degree at The College of New Jersey and a doctorate from Nova Southeastern University.

Prior to becoming dean of students at Douglass, Briddell was assistant dean and director of the Douglass College Center and then assistant dean of student life. She has taught courses in leadership and is a frequent presenter at national and international conferences.

Briddell brought to Douglass a strong background in student activities, working in this same area first at Simmons College in Boston and at CW Post on Long Island. At Douglass, Briddell has worked extensively in the area of residential life planning, playing a central role in establishing several "learning communities" at Rutgers, as well as in the other key areas of student life.

Armando Bengochea, dean of the college community at CC, said Briddell is a thoughtful leader in the area of diversity and diversity planning.

"Jocelyn very much looks forward to becoming a key player in diversity discussions at Connecticut College," Bengochea said. "She is a top-rate student life professional."

Briddell will assume the position in February.
