Dear Connecticut College Alumni:

Spring break starts this week, and students are scattered to all parts of the globe for work and fun. Their return to campus will mark the start of an unusually busy time for CC. Cornel West, a nationally known activist and intellectual, will visit in April and Nobel Prize winning environmentalist Wangari Maathai of Kenya is speaking at Commencement. The latest news:

  • Come home. Reunion - June 2-4 for classes with years ending in '1 or'6 - coincides this year with a celebration of the Arboretum's 75th anniversary.
  • Hoop dreams. Katy Serafin '08 leads a young basketball team with a promising future.
  • Stewards of the environment. A family with three generations of CC alumnae honors Karla Heurich Harrison '28 with a gift to the Goodwin-Niering Center.
  • School's out. Students, faculty put two free weeks to good use.
  • 'An elegant prophet.' Cornel West, one of America's leading intellectuals, will be on campus April 21-22 for a symposium devoted to his views on the future of democracy. Alumni are invited to attend.
  • Are there camels at the South Pole? Three CC students prove that the answer is yes.
  • Attention high school parents. If your son or daughter is waiting anxiously for a "thumbs up" from a favorite college, check out this new blog written by a CC admission officer.
