Greg Parker has been honored as the 2007 NESCAC Men's Ice Hockey Rookie of the Year

The men's ice hockey team finished 10-13-2 and 9-9-1 in conference play, earning a playoff berth in the NESCAC Tournament for the first time in program history.

Several players won honors this season:

  • Freshman goalie Greg Parker of Trenton, Ontario was named NESCAC Rookie of the Year. In addition, Parker garnered second-team All-NESCAC recognition. Parker led the NESCAC with a .922 save percentage and ranked third in the league with a 2.58 goals against average.
  • Junior forward Rob Campbell of Reading, Mass. was honored as one of 18 semifinalists for the seventh annual Joe Concannon Award, presented annually to New England´s best American born Division II or III hockey player.
  • Senior goalie Matt Gluck of Morganville, N.J. was selected as an alternate for the 2007 Pontiac Frozen Four Skills Challenge.

Coach Jim Ward said Parker, as a freshman, will be a key player for the next three years.

"Greg is one of several freshmen who have helped the Conn hockey program take the next step," Ward said. "Not only is Greg a very technically sound goaltender, he also has the ability to make the right save at the right time. Rarely were we scored against during periods of vulnerability. He earned his teammates' confidence quickly and maintained it throughout the entire season. This is not only great recognition for Greg but also for the team."

The 2006-2007 Camels enjoyed the most successful season in recent history with numerous team and individual accomplishments. The Camels reached the NESCAC Championship Tournament post-season for the first time in program history. Third-seeded Colby College (14-8-2) secured a 5-1 victory against #6 Connecticut College (10-13-2) in a quarterfinal match-up Feb. 24.

The Camels finished with their highest conference win total (9) and will be looking forward to an exciting 2007-2008 season of Camel hockey in New London.
