Fourteen-member group will lead presidential search

Seven CC trustees, four faculty, one staff member and two students will make up the search committee charged with finding President Norman Fainstein’s successor.

The committee was named by the Board of Trustees, the College’s governing body, and is chaired by Trustees Sally Susman ’84 and Philip R. McLoughlin, father of Johanna ’02 and Hadley ’05.

McLoughlin, a trustee since 2001, is the former chair of Phoenix Investment Partners Ltd. in Hartford. He co-chairs the Parent Fund Committee with his wife RoseMarie.

Susman is executive vice president of global communications for Estée Lauder Companies Inc. She was elected to the board in 2002.

“I thank all the members for their willingness to take on this important task, and particularly Sally Susman and Phil McLoughlin for their leadership in chairing the committee,” said Barbara Shattuck Kohn ’72, chair of the Board of Trustees.

Fainstein will step down in June 2006 and join the faculty as professor of sociology and urban studies in the fall of 2007 after a one-year sabbatical.

Trustees

Ann Johnson ’68, president of Ann Johnson Interiors, a New York-based residential interior design company. Johnson has served on the board since 1999.

Barbara Shattuck Kohn ’72, chair of the Board of Trustees. Kohn is a founding partner of Shattuck Hammond Partners LLC, one of the largest health care investment banking companies in the United States. She has served on the board since 1996.

Jonathan McBride ’92, co-founder of the award-winning Jungle Media Group. McBride is also a member of the Connecticut College Alumni Association Board of Directors. He has served on the Board of Trustees since 2000.

John Niblack P’98, a trustee since 2002, former vice chair of Pfizer Inc.’s board of directors and former president of Pfizer Global Research and Development.

Joan Platt ’67, former programming manager at Hewlett-Packard Co. Platt has served on the board since 2001.

Faculty

Ann Devlin, May Buckley Sadowski ’19 Professor of Psychology and College Marshal. She has taught at CC since 1973.

Marc Forster, professor of history and chair of the history department. He has taught at the College since 1990.

Stephen Loomis, Jean C. Tempel ’65 Professor of Biology and chair of the biology department. He has taught at the College since 1980.

Jacqueline Olvera, Lenore Tingle Howard ’42 Assistant Professor of Sociology. She has taught at CC since 2003.

Students

Evan Piekara ’07 serves on the Student Government Association and is a student advisor and member of the track and field team. Piekara, of Belchertown, Mass., is a double major in economics and government.

Colleen White ’06 serves on the Multicultural and Diversity Committee and was the political chair of Umoja, the African/African-American student organization. White, of New York City, is a double major in economics and urban studies.

Staff
