‘Come home’ to play, learn and reconnect
The countdown to Reunion 2005 has begun. With the annual June event just over two weeks away, the CC Office of Alumni Relations is putting the finishing touches on celebration plans. Fourteen classes spanning seven decades will be celebrating at CC June 2-5, taking part in everything from a discussion on social and economic change to Wiffle Ball games on the College green. The Class of 2000 boasts the highest number of alumni planning to attend this year’s events at 88, according to the latest tally of registration forms submitted online and via postal mail. “Joey” Merion Ferris Ritter and Sabrina B. Sanders, both members of the Class of 1935, have also signed up to visit their alma mater. The Office of Alumni Relations is busy processing those registration forms as well as hiring and training a group of more than 30 student hosts who will welcome alumni to campus and look after them throughout the weekend. With a helping hand from Physical Plant’s custodial and grounds crews, the campus will be in tip-top horticultural condition. Outdoor tents decorated in a Hawaiian luau theme will be set up in front of Knowlton House and Harkness Chapel for class receptions and dinners, and for an all-campus picnic and lobster bake. On the agenda for Reunion 2005 is a host of events for alumni and their families. Here are some highlights taking place Saturday, June 4: Alumni who have dedicated themselves to public service or who volunteer to support the College will be honored during the Alumni Association annual meeting at 10:45 a.m. Trish Bristol May ’75, Miriam “Mims” Brooks Butterworth ’40, Lois A. Larkey ’65, Mark L. Warren ’75 and Susan E. Lee ’70 will receive awards from the College. CC professors and alumni will participate in a panel discussion on “Democracy in the 21st Century: The Good News and the Bad News.” The Holleran Center for Community Action and Public Policy is hosting a discussion with alumni about their work for social and economic change and its connection to the liberal arts at CC. Coaches will lead a tour of the College’s athletic facilities, including the Jane Cadwell Lott ’36 Natatorium, Dayton Arena and the Charles B. Luce Field House. Both events start at 2:30 p.m. An hour later, CC faculty, alumni and staff who are experts on combining a career and raising children will share their experiences and advice. For those who would like some fresh air, a three-mile run led by William Wuyke, adjunct associate professor of physical education and assistant men’s track coach, will take place at 8 a.m. Daily tours of the Arboretum have also been scheduled. To register or for more details on events, visit the CC Web site.
