Conn-Quest-Camels Win Second Consecutive Championship
For the second consecutive year, the men's and women's rowing teams have won the New England Fours Championship. The Camels scored 129 points on Lake Quinsigamond earlier this month, successfully defending their title with the highest combined scoring in the men's and women's four-person championship regattas. Men's rowing head coach Ric Ricci was pleased with the performance of both teams on a super Saturday for Connecticut College rowing in Worcester. "It was another year of fantastic cooperation on the part of both the men's and women's teams to win the overall point trophy at the regatta," he said. Boston College scored 74 points to finish second. Simmons College was third overall with a score of 60 points. Bowdoin College was fourth with 58 points and Middlebury finished fifth with a score of 51 points. In the men's novice four regatta, the Camels posted a time of 7:04.534, topping WPI and Vermont to win the gold. The Camels added gold in the second novice four with a time of 7:13.429, edging BC by .68 seconds in a close finish. In one of the most exciting finishes of the day, the Camels captured a silver medal in the varsity four, crossing the finish line .974 seconds ahead of Trinity with a time of 6:52.737. In the second varsity four, the Camels won the bronze with a time of 7:20.83. In the women's championship, the Camels medaled in three different divisions. The second varsity four won a silver medal with a time of 8:04.325. The varsity four captured a bronze medal, finishing behind Middlebury and Simmons College with a time of 7:50.697. The women's second novice four won the bronze for head coach Eva Kovach's Camels, posting a time of 8:39.989. Seniors Julia Bianco (Woodstown, N.J.) and Leah Hiendlmayr (St. Paul, Minn.) are serving as co-captains for head coach Eva Kovach's squad. Junior Johann Scheidt (Fort Lee, N.J.) is captaining the men's team for head coach Ric Ricci's Camels.
