Tim Armstrong ’93, vice president of advertising sales for Google Inc., was recently named to the American Advertising Federation’s(AAF) Hall of Achievement in recognition of his accomplishments in that industry.

The AAF, the oldest national advertising trade association, established the hall of achievement in 1993. It honors talented individuals under 40 for their impact on the advertising industry through leadership and career and personal achievements.

Armstrong and six others were selected from a pool of 47 nominees for the award. He was commended by AAF president and CEO Wally Snyder as a “rare leader in business” who built Google’s advertising program from the ground up.

“He had the vision and foresight early on in his career to recognize that the internet was where his passion, talent and energy would thrive the most,” Snyder said. “His oversight has allowed Google to achieve one of the highest grossing advertising sales operations for internet companies in North America.”

Armstrong majored in economics and sociology at Connecticut College. He started his career by co-founding and running a newspaper based in Boston and later launched the first consumer internet magazine for International Data Group called I-way. He held various sales and marketing positions at Starwave’s, Disney’s ABC/ESPN Internet Ventures and Snowball.com prior to joining Google.

A reception honoring Armstrong and the other award winners took place on Nov.15 in New York City.
