Armstrong brings marketing, internet experience

Tim Armstrong '93 is vice president of advertising sales at Google Inc.

Tim Armstrong '93, vice president of advertising sales at Google Inc., has joined the Board of Trustees.

Armstrong, an economics and sociology major, is a vice president of Google and runs the company's U.S. advertising sales and operations. Since joining Google in 2000, Armstrong has grown the North American business into a multibillion-dollar operation, opening offices across the United States and Canada. He has worked on strategic partnerships with TimeWarner, News Corp., eBay and many Google partners.

Prior to working at Google, Armstrong was the vice president of sales and strategic partnerships for Snowball.com (IGN). He was also responsible for key strategic partnerships that included equity and marketing investments by New Line Cinema and an exclusive partnership with the NFL.

Before joining Snowball, Armstrong served as director of integrated media at Disney's ESPN and ABC Internet Ventures. He started his Internet career at Paul Allen's Starwave Corporation in Seattle.

Armstrong was recently named to the American Advertising Federation's Hall of Achievement and was cited as one of the top global media professionals by Media Magazine. Armstrong is a founder of the Boston Interactive Media Association, a non-profit organization that provides a forum for interactive advertising professionals in the greater Boston market.

He serves on the board of directors of the Internet Advertising Bureau, KnowledgeStorm and is non-executive chairman of Associated Content, Inc.  Armstrong also serves on the advisory board of Matt´s Promise Foundation, which works with young people battling cancer and other terminal illnesses.
