Lacrosse, soccer, rowing and hockey teams gain alumni coaches

Connecticut College has brought some familiar faces back to New London. Five newly appointed assistant coaches are returning to their alma mater to assist the lacrosse, soccer, rowing and hockey teams. Each coach is a participant in CC’s athletic internship program and each is excited to share his or her experience as a student-athlete in a familiar setting.

The group includes the following recent graduates:

• Kevin Burke ’03, men’s lacrosse
Burke graduated from CC as one of the most prolific scorers in the history of the men’s lacrosse program, ranking sixth on the team’s list of all-time leaders. An economics major, he served as a team captain for the Camels.

Christine Culver ’04, women’s soccer
Culver was a three-time New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) and all-region standout on the soccer field. She was a recipient of the Erica Bos Award, which is given to a senior athlete whose courage and relentless determination serves as an inspiration to others.

Becca Fagan ’03, women’s rowing
Fagan has returned to the boathouse as an assistant rowing coach for Eva Kovach. She captained the 2002-2003 Camels, leading one of CC’s most successful women’s rowing teams in recent history.

Lauren Luciano ’03, women’s soccer and women’s lacrosse
Luciano captained the women’s soccer and lacrosse teams in her senior season and is working with both teams this year. At the end of her senior year she received the Anita L. DeFrantz ’74 Award, which is given annually to a man and woman from the graduating class who exemplify athletic ability, leadership and sportsmanship. The award was created in honor of DeFrantz, an Olympian.

Nick Vealitzek ’04, men’s hockey
Vealitzek, who served as a co-captain of the hockey team during his senior season, is lacing up his skates for a return to Dayton Arena. He received the Anita L. DeFrantz ’74 Award his senior year. He also was a part of the search committee that recruited current Camel coach Jim Ward.
