Memorial service on Sept. 30 will honor Mach Arom ’89

Connecticut College graduate Mach Arom '89.

Mach Arom '89

Mach Arom ’89, a New York City resident, died of a heart attack while participating in a humanitarian relief mission in Rwanda on Aug. 22. A Buddhist memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 30 at the Downtown Auditorium in Lower Manhattan’s Financial District at 2 p.m.

Arom was the executive creative director at Foote, Cone and Belding, an advertising firm. He was known for his kindness and creativity, especially in times of crisis. In response to the devastation caused by the Asian tsunami of December 2004, he spearheaded the Phuket Project, a nonprofit volunteer organization that raised thousands of dollars and employed 550 volunteers to rebuild homes and schools for victims.

Arom was also an energetic volunteer on behalf of the Class of 1989, serving as Reunion Chair and as an Alumni Admission Representative. His contributions to event planning were always imaginative, organizing afternoon teas and other activities for the class.

Several services were recently held in Arom’s memory in Thailand. On Sept. 3 his ashes were spread in the waters of Phuket.

A memorial book will be given to Arom’s family at the service in New York. If you would like to create a page in Arom ’s memory, it must be 11 inches wide and 8.5 inches high with a 1.25-inch margin for binding. E-mail submissions to msteinman@fcb.com or send them to Max Steinman, FCBi, 100 West 33rd St., New York, NY 10001.

Cards to the Arom family can be sent in care of Dan Arom, Mach’s brother, at 6505 Nordic Drive, Edina, MN 55439.
