´Bucket of Bassoons´ takes on everything from polka to jazz at Connecticut College Feb. 8

NEW LONDON, Conn. - Connecticut College´s Music Department will present "A Bucket of Bassoons," featuring Rebecca Noreen, assistant professor of music, and guest artists Garrett Bennett, Yeh-Chi Wang and Sue Zoellner-Cross at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 8, in Evans Hall, Cummings Art Center at Connecticut College. Hailing from the top orchestras and music schools in the state, the four bassoonists are coming together for a unique one-time performance of Renaissance and Baroque music, tangos and works by Prokofiev and Bozza. Hailing from the New Haven Symphony, Orchestra New England, the Hartford Symphony and Rhode Island Philharmonic, the bassoonists teach at Connecticut College, Wesleyan University, the Hartt School and Neighborhood Music School. In a performance that highlights the unusual bass and tenor sounds of the bassoon, the audience will have a blast with such surprising pieces as "The Entrance and Polka of the Bassoon Players," "I Was a Teenage Bassoon Player," and "The Gravy Waltz," featuring a improvisational jazz bassoonist.
