LEWISTON, Maine --Winslow Murdoch (Cropseyville, N.Y.) scored in the 79th minute of action and Alex Martland (Marblehead, Mass.) had three saves to lead the Connecticut College Camels to a 1-0 blanking of Bates College in the season opener for both sides. It was a memorable afternoon for Connecticut College head coach Kenny Murphy, who collected the conference victory in his debut with the Camels. Murdoch´s initial bid was saved by Bates keeper Greg Watts (West Chester, Pa.), but he was able to recover the rebound and find the back of the net for the score and eventual game-winner. The Camels held a 19-to-15 advantage in shots. Watts finished with 11 saves for the Bobcats. Martland notched his third career shutout for the Camels. The Camels will visit Williams College next Saturday afternoon for a noon-time NESCAC match-up in Williamstown, Mass.
