LEWISTON, Maine--Abby Hine (Madison, Conn.) tallied her 19th and 20th collegiate goals as Connecticut College erased an early deficit with a 5-0 run in a season opening 5-3 NESCAC victory at Bates College Saturday. Kelsey Nickerson (Weston, Mass.) added a pair of goals and Jen Wallace (Farmington, Maine.) chipped in with a goal and an assist for the Camels. Hine ignited the Camels on their scoring surge, supplying the equalizer with 24:41 remaining to tie the game at one. Nickerson scored the next two goals and the Camels carried a 3-1 advantage into the break. The Camels continued to carry momentum into the second stanza. Wallace added an insurance tally 1:30 into the frame. Just over a minute later, Wallace assisted Hine for her second score and the Camels enjoyed a 5-1 lead. Bates accounted for the next two goals, trimming the lead to two with a goal from Morgan Maciewicz (Marblehead, Mass.) with 6:22 remaining in regulation. But the Camels clamped down defensively in the closing moments and were able to hold on for the 5-3 win. Rookie net-minder Kelly Brennan (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) had one save in first half action. Steph Quinn (Arlington, Mass.) collected four saves in her return to the program. Katie McEnroe (Hockessin, Del.) made 11 saves for the Bobcats. The Camels will host 19th ranked Springfield College this Thursday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
