The Camels Will Turn Their Focus Back to the NESCAC and Saturday´s Game at Williams After Dropping a Close Contest to Springfield in New London Thursday
NEW LONDON, Conn. -Senior midfielder Becca Gamble (Granby, Conn.) scored 28 seconds into the overtime period Thursday, lifting the Springfield College field hockey team (3-2) to a 1-0 victory at Connecticut College (1-1). Alison McCarthy (North Andover, Mass.) posted the complete game shutout, coming away with eight saves for the visitors. Rookie net-minder Kelly Brennan (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) made three saves for the Camels. Morgan Rein (Mystic, Conn.) assisted on the game-winner. Rein broke free in the 7x7 situation, forcing Brennan to come out of the cage. She was able to play a through ball past the keeper to Gamble who was sprinting to the far side of the cage for an uncontested score. McCarthy saved the game for Springfield, thwarting numerous scoring opportunities. The Camels had a prime scoring chance late in the first half. With 9:30 remaining, Emily Scribner (White River Junction, Vt.) played a ball from the top of the circle to Abby Hine (Madison, Conn.). Hine redirected the ball with a high shot but McCarthy was able to get her body in front of it. Moments later, Hine snapped off a turnaround shot from the slot area but McCarthy was able to meet the ball with her blocker. Later on in the second half, Kristen Dirmaier (South Burlington, Vt.) ripped off an outside shot with 25:50 to play but McCarthy was able to make a kick-save. The Camels will visit Williams College this Saturday afternoon for a noon-time NESCAC match up in Williamstown, Mass. The Pride will visit Amherst College Wednesday night for a 7:00 p.m. tilt.
