Camels Sweep First Two Matches at MIT DeMais Tallies 79 Assists in Two Wins for Surging Camels

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--The Connecticut College volleyball team (8-2) won its first two matches at the MIT Invitational Friday night in Cambridge, Mass. In the early match, the Camels posted a 3-0 victory against Colby Sawyer College. Junior setter Marissa DeMais (Hillsdale, N.J.) dished out 35 assists in the triumph. Senior Lauren Wise (Oakton, Va.) posted a double-double with 10 kills, 12 digs and four aces. Meg Christman (Wilmington, Del.) added 10 kills for the Camels in the win. Connecticut College knocked off host MIT 3-1 in the night-cap. The game scores were 25-22, 25-17, 11-25 and 25-14 in favor of the visitors. DeMais distributed 44 assists to lead the Camels in the victory. Sophomore Amy Newman (Los Angeles, Calif.) erupted with 20 kills and 13 digs in the win. MIT (10-3) carried a four-match winning streak into the contest. With the two wins Friday night, the Camels have advanced into Saturday´s Championship bracket. They will meet NESCAC rival Tufts in a noon-time pairing. The Camels will then play Williams or Wesleyan at 4:00 p.m.
