NEW LONDON, Conn.--The Camel men´s cross country program is celebrating some exciting news on the alumni front. Assistant coach and former All-American Adam Fitzgerald ´03 raced to a 49th place finish at the Chicago Marathon this past weekend. Fitzgerald posted a time of 2:25:30 in the Windy City as the 36th American to cross the finish line.
Head coach Jim Butler was extremely excited to hear of Fitzgerald´s success.
"Adam called me from Chicago right after the race and I was thrilled to hear that he had run 2:25," Butler said. "This summer and early fall he worked extremely hard to prepare himself for this marathon, and in recent weeks his training led us to believe he might have a good race at Chicago. Adam works harder than any runner I have ever coached, so his continuing to race at a very high level does not surprise me. The fact that he was able to finish in a personal record is icing on the cake and well deserved."
Fitzgerald helped lead the Camels to an NCAA at large berth in 2002. Connecticut College ended the season with a final ranking of #20 in the nation.
