Parker Stops 32 Shots for Camels
NEW LONDON, Conn.--Matt Mascucci (Winthrop, Mass.) scored 58 seconds into overtime Friday night to lift the Williams College men´s hockey team to a 3-2 victory against Connecticut College in the season opener for both sides. Masucci assisted on the tying goal in regulation for the Ephs, who were able to overcome a 2-1 deficit in the win.
Connor Olvany (Wilmette, Ill.) chipped in with a goal and an assist for the victors while Evan Dugdale (Glastonbury, Conn.) added two assists for the Ephs.
Connecticut College received its goals from freshman Sean Murray (Stamford, Conn.) and senior Ryan Howarth (Grand Blanc, Mich.), who scored the 31st goal of his career with two minutes remaining in the second period. Trevor Bradley (West Hartford, Conn.) and Joe Capuano (Melrose, Mass.)assisted on the power-play score.
Senior Greg Parker (Trenton, Ont.) received a warm ovation from a packed crowd of 600 Connecticut College fans in his first game back after having his 2008-2009 season end abruptly with an injury. Parker showed little rust, collecting 32 saves on 35 Wiliams shots in another brilliant performance between the pipes.
Sophomore Ryan Purdy (La Jolla, Calif.) was impressive in his own right, stopping 16 Camel shots in the opening period alone en route to a 32 save effort for the victors.
The Camels will host Middlebury College Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. in New London.
