CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--The Connecticut College squash teams opened their season with matches at Harvard University this weekend. The men´s team split four matches while the women´s team went 1-2.
The Camel women opened the weekend with a 7-2 win against the Wellesley Blue. Connecticut College dropped a 6-3 decision to Bowdoin before falling in a 9-0 decision to the Bobcats of Bates College. Senior co-captain Cara Flynn (Haverford, Pa.), Jenn Hyslip (Andover, Mass.) and Emily Russell (West Hartford, Conn.) all were 2-1 for the Camels on the weekend.
The Camel men earned a 9-0 win against Boston University and knocked off the Wildcats of Northwestern University in a 7-2 decision. The Camels dropped a 6-3 decision to Bowdoin and fell to a strong Bates team by a 9-0 score.
Caleb Garza (Ocean City, N.J.), Asa Welty (Gloucester, Mass.) and Charlie Bolton (Bratenahl, Ohio) pulled out five set wins in the Bowdoin match and the Camels battled the Polar Bears in some close losses. Coach McNally says he´s pleased with the progress of both teams and is looking forward to an exciting tournament at Wesleyan Dec. 4-6.
"I am very, very pleased with the play this weekend," said McNally. "With only three returners on the women´s team and five on the men´s team, we are very new, young teams. Both teams are very excited about the season and are training and competing with enthusiasm."
