Camels Earn First NESCAC Win in New London
NEW LONDON, Conn.--The Connecticut College women´s hockey team (1-3, 1-3) earned a 3-0 victory against visiting Wesleyan University (0-4, 0-4) in NESCAC action played at Dayton Arena Sunday afternoon. Sam Schoeneberger (Vernon, Conn.), Erin Davey (Nashua, N.H.) and Rachel Lindmark (Andover, Mass.) potted goals for the Camels, who racked up 62 shots in the blanking.
Senior Sara Christopher (Andover, Mass.) collected 19 saves in the second shutout of her career, turning aside nine Wesleyan shots in the third period of play. Rookie net-minder Ashleigh Corvi (Barrington, R.I.) stopped 59 Connecticut College shots in an impressive performance between the pipes for the Cardinals.
The Camels out-shot the Cardinals 29-to-7 in the opening period but could not capitalize on three Wesleyan penalties. In the middle period, the Camels seized control of this contest. Schoeneberger broke the ice with the first goal of her collegiate career at 4:23 of the second. Junior Celia Medeiros (Portsmouth, R.I.) and senior Sarah Napoli (Barrington, R.I.) assisted on the marker. Just 1:49 before the intermission, Erin Davey found the back of the net with the 27th goal of her career and the Camels carried a 2-0 lead into the break.
In the third, the Camels added a valuable insurance goal when Lindmark lit the lamp with her 14th goal and 32nd collegiate point at the 1:07 mark. Brigid O´Gorman (Eden, N.Y.) assisted on the tally. Christopher took care of the rest, thwarting a 5-on-3 situation that spanned 1:33 of the period.
The Camels will play three more home games this week before they break for the exam period. Tuesday night, Connecticut College will host the Crusaders of Holy Cross for a 7:00 p.m. game.
