Camel Women Top Coast Guard, Men Fall to Bears Karlson Sets School Record in 200 Yard Breaststroke

NEW LONDON, Conn.--The Connecticut College swimming and diving teams competed against the Coast Guard Saturday. Led by junior All-America Sarah Murphy (Williamsburg, Va.), Katie Karlson (Wayland, Mass.) and Kat Arnao (West Chester, Pa.), the Camel women cruised to a 177-116 victory. Sophomore All-America Tim Walsh (Lincoln Park, N.J.) had another big day but the Bears defeated the Camels by a count of 201-96 in the men´s action. Karlson set a school record in the 200 yard breaststroke, posting a winning time of 2:29.74 for the Camels. She narrowly missed out another school mark with her triumphant time of 1:08.21 in the 100 yard breaststroke. Murphy posted respective times of 54.20 seconds and 1:57.10 to win the 100 and 200 yard freestyle events. In the 100 yard butterfly, Murphy coasted to victory in 59.28 seconds. Senior Kat Arnao (West Chester, Pa.) swept the one and three-meter diving events, registering winning scores of 159.45 and 186.75 points for Connecticut College. The Camels had three other individual event winners. Senior Kristen Zarba (Beverly, Mass.) posted a time of 2:16.64 in the 200 yard butterfly. In the 200 yard backstroke, Maureen Costello (Havertown, Pa.) notched a victory in 2:16.20. Junior Caitlin Munns (Westfield, Mass.) was victorious in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:18.86 for Connecticut College. In the 400 yard medley relay, the Camels finished 1-2. The foursome comprised of Maureen Costello, Katie Karlson, Sarah Murphy, and Caitlin Munns cruised to victory in 4:06.77. Jessica Schanzer (Monterey, Calif.), Erika Fernandes (Westport, Mass.), Kristen Zarba and Mackenzie Lilly (Frederick, Md.) teamed up for a second place finish in 4:16.46. In the men´s meet, Tim Walsh swept the 100 and 200 yard backstroke events with respective times of 52.55 seconds and 1:55.24. Senior All-Americans Pat Troy (Bradford, N.H.) and Grant Moryan (Westfield, N.J.) notched victories for the Camels. Troy won the 100 yard butterfly in 51.43 seconds while Moryan posted a time of 48.31 seconds to win the 100 yard freestyle. In the 400 yard medley relay, Tim Walsh, Sam Perley (Charlotte, N.C.), Pat Troy, and Grant Moryan were victorious in 3:31.35 seconds.
